How It Works

Our Full Flake Epoxy Installation Process

Each full flake floor starts with concrete prep and ends with a sealed topcoat. Here is what to expect when you hire DO Epoxy.

01Step 1

Concrete Surface Preparation

We grind or profile the slab to open the pores and remove any existing coatings, oils, or contamination. Proper prep is what separates a floor that lasts from one that peels.

02Step 2

Base Coat Application

A quality epoxy base coat goes down first. This is the bonding layer that anchors everything above it to the concrete.

03Step 3

Full Flake Broadcast

Vinyl flakes are broadcast heavily across the wet base coat until the surface is fully saturated. No concrete should show through when done correctly.

04Step 4

Scrape and Seal

Once the base cures, we scrape off loose chips, knock down any high edges, and apply a clear polyaspartic or urethane topcoat that locks the flakes in place and makes the floor easy to clean.

Frequently asked

Full Flake Epoxy Questions We Hear Often

Common questions get answered quickly so the page feels more trustworthy before someone reaches out.

Q1

What does full flake mean compared to partial flake?

Full flake means the vinyl chips are broadcast heavily enough to cover the entire base coat with no visible gaps. Partial flake leaves some of the base color showing through. Full flake gives a more uniform, finished look and adds slightly more texture.

Q2

How long does a full flake epoxy floor last?

With proper surface prep and a quality topcoat, a full flake floor holds up well for many years under normal residential or commercial use. The condition of the concrete underneath and how the floor is maintained both play a role.

Q3

Can you install this over an existing painted garage floor?

Existing paint or coatings usually need to be removed first. We grind the surface down to bare concrete so the new epoxy bonds directly to the slab rather than to a previous coating that could fail.

Q4

How long do I need to stay off the floor after installation?

Light foot traffic is typically possible within 24 hours. We recommend waiting longer before driving vehicles onto the floor. We will give you specific timing based on the products used on your project.

Q5

What chip colors and blends do you offer?

We carry a range of flake blends from neutral grays and tans to more colorful mixes. If you have a specific look in mind, bring a photo or color reference and we can find the closest match.

Q6

Do you work in areas outside of Addison?

Yes. We regularly install full flake epoxy floors in Elmhurst, Lombard, Bensenville, Wood Dale, Itasca, and other communities across the Chicago suburbs.

Q7

Is full flake epoxy a good choice for a basement floor?

It works well in basements as long as the concrete does not have active moisture issues. We assess the slab before starting and can advise whether additional moisture mitigation is needed for your specific space.

Q8
